SeniorAge plays a key role in planning, developing, coordinating, and delivering a wide range of service and support that enables seniors to remain independent and at home. Mandated by the Older American’s Act of 1965, our five core service offerings include the following.
Support Services (Information and Assistance)
Information and support is key to helping older adults remain independent and in their own homes. We answer questions and provide guidance in the areas of home care, housing options, obtaining adaptive and safety equipment for the home, as well as how to sign up for public benefits.
Care Coordination/Caregiver Guidance
Today, an estimated 65.7 million Americans, or nearly 30 percent of the general population, provide care for an older adult, or someone living with illness or disability. We provide one-on-one home and health assessments and then link individuals to opportunities and services available to them within their own communities. We also help connect families with local providers who can help them create a caregiving plan, address specific challenges, or identify support services.
Nutrition
Our nutrition programs prevent and end hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity in a variety of ways. Volunteers deliver meals and check on the well-being of people who are homebound. For those who are able, our Senior Centers offer nutritionally balanced meals in a dining room setting.
Health and Wellness Programs
Disease prevention and wellness programs are a small but vital outreach program that includes chronic disease self-management, foot clinics, falls prevention, fitness and exercise, and other research-based interventions effective in enhancing overall health and wellness of seniors.
Advocacy (Championing for Seniors)
We work on behalf of our seniors to help protect and prevent elder abuse through services like the Ombudsman program which enhances the lives of long-term care residents. We also support the efforts of Silver-Haired Legislature volunteers who promote and endorse the needs of seniors in their communities.
SeniorAge Offers a Wide Range of Additional Benefits
Telephone Reassurance
SeniorAge has volunteers and staff who make regular phone calls to check on the well-being of seniors who are alone and who may not have someone checking in on them regularly.
Senior Centers
Our Senior Centers are comfortable gathering places for food, fellowship, and fun. Center professionals and volunteers make it a trusted place to help you with your needs.
Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE)
IRS-certified volunteers can complete your federal and state tax forms and housing expense rebate (MO-PTC) without charge.
Property Tax Rebates/Renters Rebates
We are experts in finding money-savings programs that might help a tight budget stretch a little further.
In-Home Services/Essential House Cleaning
A little help goes a long way to help a senior remain independent. We help you find help with housework, personal care (such as bathing), and respite care through independent providers in the home which allows caregivers time away when a family member cannot be left alone.
Transportation Options
Access to transportation is key to support the health and well-being of older adults and ensure their ability to age in place in the community. We provide access to essential shopping destinations, doctor visits, and even to our Senior Centers for socialization, meals and programs.
Insurance Counseling (Navigator)
Trained Navigators are ready to help you enroll in the best insurance plans to meet your individual needs.
Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
A network of trained volunteers regularly visit nursing home residents. They can help address any concerns or needs.
Silver-Haired Legislature
Acting in an advisory capacity to the Missouri legislature, seniors (age 60 or older) are elected by their peers to promote legislation that is in the best interest of Missouri’s older adults.
And Many Other County Senior Citizens’ Tax Board Funded Projects
Special projects and enhanced services are made possible by county senior tax fund grant initiatives.
